January 2014 refurb
Posted on January 29th, 2014 by queens

For the first time since opening the pub in early 2011, we have closed the front door at The Queens for three weeks while the painters and builders move in to carry out a gentle but thorough refurbishment. Mostly it’s touching up paintwork and repairs, eg replacing cracked radiator covers or shampooing carpets. The bedrooms have all been freshly painted and here’s a picture of room 8 up on the top floor:

And we also decided to paint the stairwell going up the bedrooms a traditional, bottle green colour and hang up some old mirrors. Here’s what it looks like today – before one more giant mirror goes in the alcove and the lightshade is fitted:

SIR PETER BLAKE IN TOWN
Posted on August 14th, 2013 by queens

The private view for a new exhibition of Peter Blake’s prints was held on Friday 2nd August at The Porthminster Gallery. A party of ten then came to dine at The Queen’s, where the artist admired one of his prints hanging on the wall (below). Some newspaper coverage of the event is here http://www.thisiscornwall.co.uk/Godfather-Pop-receives-excited-reception-St-Ives/story-19618500-detail/story.html#axzz2bHOwVgNd

Blue Flag clean beaches in St Ives
Posted on May 30th, 2013 by queens

See www.blueflag.org/Menu/Awarded+sites/2012/Northern+Hemisphere/England/SouthWest to find details of St Ives’s THREE beaches awarded the Blue Flag status for ‘destinations with the highest quality in water, facilities, safety, environmental education and management’. They are Porthminster, Porthmeor and Carbis Bay. I’m pretty sure St Ives is the only town in the South-West to enjoy more than one Blue Flag beach.
